#ShorehamWordfest is Celebrating 13 Years!!

From grassroot beginnings to building a huge reputation on the national literary map with an annual festival in October & the Celebration of #Shakespeare every April. It all started back in 2011 with a meeting of local writers, poets & literary enthusiasts in an East Street café. The vision to #SupportLocal creativity & attract high profile authors & speakers to #ShorehambySea. It is the community that make Wordfest, with dedicated volunteers, staff & support from talented professionals to our patrons #SimonBrett, #EllyGriffiths, #WilliamShaw & #CarolCleveland.

#RosalindTurner is one of the Founders, Trustee of the charity, Programme Director & annual Festival Coordinator, here’s what she said…

“Our festival is all about words; written, spoken & performed. We started off shoulder to shoulder in small venues over a weekend of poetry, readings, talks & plays. That has grown into a three-week annual event packed full of activities in various venues for all ages & interests.

With a lot of support from #FelicityKnight & our team of enthusiastic volunteers, we remain very community led & a part of the local arts scene. Over the years I have met some outstanding personalities & I am really excited by our programme this year. We have chosen the theme of ‘Making Waves’ to reflect the importance of literature & the arts in reflecting & making a change.

We have writing workshops & an open mic slam & the third Fatal Shore Crime writing festival. There is a whole day of Sussex social history, dramas including ghostly tales in the Marlipins Museum, poetry, talks, a topical discussion about international affairs & an Any Questions session with key social activists.

We have some great headliners including the acclaimed actor #HughBonneville sharing stories from his memoir, #PeterJames, #KateMosse, #CarolineLucas & #SamMcAlister who was behind the infamous interview with #PrinceAndrew.

In all there are 27 events & we hope there is something to suit everyone. After each festival we reflect on how it has gone & start to plan for next year. We always welcome ideas & new volunteers so please get in touch if you are interest – until then we look forward to seeing you at one of our events between 29th September-20th October.”
