It used to be that Brighton had all the lesbian nightlife and Worthing was where you moved to bring up kids or retire. Stephanie Young, realized that more and more queer women over 30 were moving to Worthing and needed a place to party, socialize and call their own. 2 years later, it’s not just the Worthing women who love GirlFlix, many come from Brighton, Chichester, Eastbourn, London and even Oban – Scotland (our OutNewsGlobal Editor, Maz Gordon, drove all the way a few days early, just to attend GirlFlix).
Their next party is at their most glamorous venue, The Melon Bar, on September 20th. Don’t hang around though, GirlFlix always sells out. The Melon Bar is an amazing art deco cocktail bar featuring a luxurious balcony area reserved for VIP ticket holders. This time there is even more fun to be had with exclusive and unlimited use of the Karaoke rooms! It’s all about the GOLD VIP BABY. Sliver standard tickets are also available at an affordable price so everyone can get involved and make this another night to remember. GirlFlix has always been about the community and creating a safe space for Lesbian and Queer women to connect, make friends, find love and have some fun – wanting to keep it accessible for all. The Melon Bar ground floor is also accessible for wheelchairs and has disabled facilities. You will also find seating booths, a bar and the dance floor.

So What Is GirlFlix?
A community based group of lesbian and queer women that host West Sussex’s only ‘Women for Women’ centered club nights. Back in 2022, Stephanie wanted a space to meet other queer women, have a decent dance and a box full of fun, and just maybe meet the love of her life without having to travel into Brighton. She clearly wasn’t the only one craving this experience, as GirlFlix events have rocketed in popularity since the time of their launch.
Specifically, Stephanie notes on her website www.girlflix.co.uk, ‘So many women have commented that they have not been out for years and are so grateful that finally there is somewhere to go for lesbian and queer women, where they feel safe.’ Stephanie, with the help of her wonderful crew, has created an environment where people feel supported to be themselves, and a community that only seems to be getting bigger.

DJs and Singers
The one thing GirlFlix does well is to keep their nights diverse with different music genres to cover all tastes and give opportunities to our lesbain community to get up and perform. So far they have hosted a variety of DJs and singers, some old skool and some new faces. Always on the lookout for new applicants, supportive crew and followers keep GirlFlix fresh with something different at every event, plus their resident DJs Tor Lloyd, Eliza Pink and DJ S2K who always pull it out of the bag. Eden Kelly will perform a spectacular set of R&B and soulful songs with her jazzy vocals. She is a proud female, mixed race and queer South Coast musician/singer/songwriter. She’ll be playing original music as well as covers (do sing along!). Eden is inspired by tunes of the past with modern twists, so you’ll be swaying and slow-grooving to the vibe. “Being part of a queer and feminine group is super important! Meeting people of all backgrounds and generations that share similar identities really makes you feel a sense of belonging. It’s so crucial to stay connected in the current tough climate, and GirlFlix gives us a safe place to do just that!”

DJ S2K will be bringing a mix of 80’s 90’s grooves and dance floor bangers. She has quickly become a legend within the GirlFlix community with her energy, positive heart and enthusiasm to live life to the full. S2K says “I love the chic style of the Melon Bar and the capacity it holds bringing an eclectic mix of beautiful and happy women all together in one place with one goal … to feel safe, party and dance the night away”. Next you will hear an upbeat, vocal house set from Just Rhi. Then finally what better way to put a cherry on top of the evening, than the legendary DJ Queenie, formally known as Queen Josephine! Leaving the smog of Brighton behind for the night, this is the 2nd appearance from Queenie at GirlFlix. The crowd loved her set last time and we are sure yet again the crowd will stay until the final tune ends as she brings her diva-fueled disco house grooves to Worthing’s finest Women for Women’s club night. GirlFlix Entry Policy
GirlFlix hosts ‘Women for Women’ events for anyone that self-identifies as a lesbian, queer women, bisexual or trans feminine.
Non-binary people, CIS women and trans males are welcome as guests but are personally responsible to determine whether our ‘Women for Women’ centred events are suited to themselves.
Our events are NOT suitable for heterosexual males, gay and bisexual men. We create a safe space for Queer Women and trust that ticket holders have followed our trusted guidelines.
We will not tolerate any abusive behavior or discriminating language towards any of our attendees, guests or staff at our events or online. Should you feel uncomfortable, please inform a member of staff immediately. We reserve the right to withhold entry if deemed necessary to safeguard our self-identifying women.
