The Scrap Space
Scrapstore and community activity space showcasing creative reuse coming to West Sussex
Adur based community arts non profit, Over the Moon, is pleased to announce its most ambitious project to date: The Scrap Space. This will be a venue combining a scrapstore and activity space to encourage, inspire and enable creativity, sustainability and community, in Adur on the South Coast in West Sussex. The scrapstore will redistribute clean and safe waste donated by businesses and individuals for creative reuse, such as for art, craft, play and DIY, and the activity space will run creative activity sessions for all ages and skill levels and be available for hire. Individuals, groups and organisations will be able to become scrapstore members and access materials in a cheap and environmentally friendly way.
We can collect scrap from you within a 5 mile radius of Shoreham-by-Sea or you can drop it off in central Shoreham-by-Sea. Email thescrapspace@gmail.com or weareoverthemoon@gmail.com with any questions and to arrange scrap collection or drop off, with a description and ideally photos of your scrap.
Emily Phillips, director of Over the Moon says, “We want to make The Scrap Space a welcoming community resource that is proudly part of the circular economy. We are passionate about getting people together, getting people creating and using what we already have to do so. We see repurposing whatever we can get our hands on as an enjoyable challenge and a springboard for creativity. We just think it makes sense to have this mindset so we can better look after our planet. Even better, if we can do this together in the community, it’s a great way to connect with people.”
Over the Moon is currently seeking suitable premises for The Scrap Space and fundraising towards costs of getting the venue up and running. If you would like to support The Scrap Space, you can donate to the crowdfunding campaign at www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/thescrapspace. Over the Moon would also like to hear from anyone who would like to donate scrap or volunteer with the project. Details of the types of scrap that can currently be accepted and more information can be found at facebook.com/weareoverthemoon, www.facebook.com/thescrapspace and www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk.
All scrap will either be sold as it is at low price from The Scrap Space, processed into kits or packs before selling, or used in Scrap Space activity sessions. Free scrap will also be distributed according to local need through organisations such as Adur Community Gateway. The Scrap Space is run by community interest company Over the Moon Shoreham C.I.C.
